Brother, Can You Lend a Hand (Rail)?

Older buildings get refurbished and repurposed all the time. In many cases, the exterior is preserved to maintain an historic feel, while the interior is retrofitted with modern materials and design.

Such is the case with a famous brewery complex on the western edge of Milwaukee’s downtown (pictured below). Offices, residences, a hotel and a restaurant fill these legacy structures, which once helped make Milwaukee the “Beer Capital of the World.” Their rebirth offers a nod to the past, and hope for the future.

Safe access to any building should always be a priority. People with physical disabilities might need infrastructure to help navigate steps or elevations. Given the ice and snow that lasts for months, these features can help everyone get up and down potentially hazardous areas!

The black handrails in the photo above are an example. The Milwaukee metal fabrication craftsmen at 3Up Metal Works recently removed, remade and installed these handrails to provide sturdy support for those using the building’s steps. They’re a feature that usually goes unnoticed, yet can be critically important to those who need them.

If you visit this area, which once teemed with thousands of brewery workers, take a moment to soak in its positive rebirth. Our Milwaukee metal fabricators are proud to help keep alive a legacy that, decades ago, was the answer to the question, "What'll you have?"
