Elevating Rooftop Maintenance

Still using a stepladder to access and maintain rooftop HVAC units? Think again.

Driven by stringent safety regulations, and escalating replacement costs, building owners are adding permanent maintenance platforms around this heavy, complex machinery. Performing repairs and service is safer, and far more efficient, when personnel don’t have to worry about shaky footing!

As you can see by these images, this fabricated metal infrastructure in the Milwaukee, WI area, takes many shapes. A 4-foot stairway often leads from roof to platform. Sometimes a fixed vertical ladder is used.

The platforms themselves might be a horseshoe or an “L,” depending on the HVAC design. The skilled custom metal fabricators at 3Up Metal Works have built platforms to accommodate a dizzying array of HVAC configurations. Catwalks are often installed to get from one space to another, sometimes snaking through narrow spots.

This new infrastructure represents a marked improvement for many reasons. Workers have flat, spacious areas to set tools. Their standing surface is level and unmoving. Access pieces can be designed to reach different heights, all while maintaining stability.

Installing custom fabricated metal infrastructure in the Milwaukee, WI area, doesn’t necessarily entail roof penetration, either. New assemblies can be tied into HVAC units, or anchored in composite decking. Leak risks are usually non-existent.

Is your rooftop infrastructure at the level you want … or know you need? Contact 3Up Metal Works for a walk-through. We’ll share thoughts on how access can be made safer and better.

Modernizing the infrastructure around HVAC systems helps keep them operating at peak performance. It’s a step in the right direction … and not on a rickety ladder, either!
